Baltimore Couple’s Pressed Flower Wedding: Minimalist & Vintage Charm

Newlyweds pose under weathered arches, embracing their future together

Starting with their wedding venue, an old repurposed dye house, this Baltimore couple could already picture their wedding. The bride loves pressed flowers and knew that they wanted to incorporate them throughout the celebration, from the cake and escort cards to lollipop favors that the bride made herself. It's a fresh take on florals that gives them a more minimalist feel, reminiscent of vintage botanical illustrations. The rest of the flowers for the wedding were kept to a minimum and consisted mainly of greenery and neutral tones to make the pressed flower details really shine.

SRS Events worked with this couple over the course of a year as their plans were constantly forced to shift due to COVID-19 restrictions. Together they still managed to pull off their original wedding design on their original wedding date, which is almost unheard of! Scentsational Florals created these beautifully understated arrangements including the hanging floral installation that served as the ceremony backdrop. Mt. Washington Mill Dye House is a unique venue and brought a warm old-world feel to this otherwise modern wedding and Kayce Shoffner Photography was there to capture every special moment as it unfolded. JUST BEFORE THE WORLD SHUT DOWN

Elaine and Kevin began planning their March 2021 wedding at the start of 2020, right before COVID hit. After hiring SRS Events and selecting their venue, the Mt. Washington Mill Dye House in Baltimore, they proceeded with planning the 100 guest event, confident the wedding would be able to proceed as planned. In February 2021, restrictions were still limited to only 10 people allowed for a wedding. Disheartened, the couple and wedding planner reached out to vendors for availability to postpone the wedding. Just as they were about to change the date to 2022, Baltimore lifted gathering restrictions and their wedding was able to proceed! Elaine and Kevin were thrilled, although they still reduced their list to 50 guests to ensure it was a safe celebration. They also had everyone wear masks, including the officiant and wedding party during the ceremony.

KEEPING IT SIMPLE

For her wedding dress, Elaine selected the sleek silk gown made by Alexandra Grecco from Lovely Bride boutique. Her gorgeous, ethereal veil with floral appliques was from BHLDN. Elaine knew she wanted her bridesmaids in champagne silk midi dresses and found the perfect dress from Jenny Yoo. The men were sharp in their black tuxes from The Black Tux.

GETTING CRAFTY

When Elaine and Kevin first toured their venue, they fell in love with it and knew it would be perfect for their modern and minimal wedding design. Elaine loved the idea of a hanging asymmetrical floral backdrop for the ceremony, that would later be repurposed as the cake backdrop. Another detail that Elaine knew she wanted to incorporate was pressed florals. She took on the DIY project of pressing florals to use them for her escort cards, signage, and even made her own lollipops as guest favors! On their wedding day, Elaine and Kevin were so excited to be able to celebrate as planned and get married on their intended, original date!
