Seeing Double: A Double Wedding Shoot With International Flair

No, this isn't a live-action remake of your favorite fairytale movie, but it may as well be, right?! This shoot has a gorgeous castle backdrop on the lush mountainside, a wall of books, and two couples decked out in all their finery. That's right, two couples! It's a double wedding-a trend that is apparently on the rise. You're already investing in the venue, the photographer, all the other vendors, and if you can agree on a date...why not? You could literally split the cost of the wedding. Now, we know what you're thinking, "Who wants their wedding to be identical to someone else's?", but that's the beauty, it doesn't have to be. With a few shared elements, this team created two very distinct weddings.

These beautifully moody photos by Vito Photography really set the tone for this entire shoot. Beata Backhaus made sure that each couple involved had a unique wedding experience and overall design. Beata also created the floral arrangements and even incorporated custom colors like light blue. Each wedding had its own videographer-Feuerstake and Tim Schoemaker. We couldn't forget to mention Schloss Wangen Bellermont, the incredible venue that is truly a show stopper and so versatile! All the images are in the full gallery, so be sure to click through and read on to hear more from planner, Beata Backhaus about how they pulled off two very unique wedding experiences.

AN INTERNATIONAL SUPER TEAM

Old European castle nestled amongst mountains and trees

My name is Beata Backhaus and I am a wedding planner from Germany, I also do design and florals. During this difficult time, I had a fabulous opportunity to work with the location, Schloss Wangen Bellermont. It is a special and charismatic castle in Bozen, South Tirol. I planned a wedding styled shoot with two couples and a team of amazing vendors.

These different vendors came from all over, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and Austria! We wanted to present an international wedding. My goal was to show the two couples in a unique way. The idea of a double wedding is a new trend in the industry. The location with the mountain panorama of Bozen in the background was the perfect place for it. The overall theme of the shoot was a quote from Dante Alighieri: "l'amor que move il sole e l'altre stelle" which translates to "the love that moves the sun and all of the stars". The quote is very important in Italian culture and deals with the power of love which is stronger than anything. I wanted to show that during this difficult time (the pandemic) it is important to stand together globally/internationally.

ON-TREND

Because the location is far up in the mountains and also the way to the castle is very adventurous, it captures the meaning of the quote perfectly. The colors of the shoot symbolize the trending colors of 2021, petrol and gold. I dyed Baby's Breath two different colors; I picked light blue and apricot. It was a great mixture between old (the castle) and new (the colors).  For the cake, I contacted the master confectioner Markus Hufnagl, who works together with Kristallwelten (Swarovski), so the cake also had Swarovski crystals on it and was very special.

TWO DISTINCT LOOKS

The pairs were styled and got their hair done by two different hair and makeup artists (Nina and Olga, who have different companies). We also had different singers who sang in Italian and English. Giacomo and Marco are two singers who sang in Italian and also played instruments (guitar and mandolin) during the ceremony. The other two singers are Felicitas and Ola, who sang in English. Ola was also the officiant and spoke in three languages (German, English, and Italian) so that everybody could understand her and follow the wedding ceremony. In the end, they sang all together and it was very beautiful.
