Art Nouveau Inspired Wedding In The Austrian Alps

Newlyweds walk away in a forest, a romantic wedding photo

With Instagram, Pinterest, and wedding blogs, it is easy to feel pressure to design your wedding around what's currently trending. This couple decided to forgo the trends and go with a theme that they're both passionate about, art nouveau. With deco-inspired stationery, a vintage venue, and 20s inspired fashions, there are little nods to the theme hidden everywhere. This wedding just goes to show that as long as you choose a design you're passionate about, everything else will fall into place.

This couple entrusted &everafter to bring their vision to life and they delivered. The first task was finding a venue that evoked a specific time and place and Villa Antoinette fit the bill perfectly. Ilviras Blumen also incorporated traditional 20s floral elements into the arrangements. These intimate photos by Rebecca Dimeny showcase all of the stunning details that make this wedding come together. To see even more from this wedding, check out the full gallery. Read on to hear more from Marina of &everafter about all of the art nouveau elements and symbols that went into making this couple's dream come to life.

When it comes to planning a wedding, many might consider a timeless style with a bit of a modern touch, so you can look at your pictures years from now and still see this is how it would be done today. This couple did not aim for this sleek style and yet found the perfect theme and location where anything seems to be frozen in time. The art nouveau or in german “Jugenstil” themed wedding fits right into the Austrian alps where it took place.

A DECO COLOR PALETTE

The small 1920s chalet, Villa Antoinette, which can hold up to 30 wedding guests, was the perfect location with all its lovely restored details around the whole house. The charming garden arranged on different levels makes it the ideal summer garden ceremony location. The color palette of the Antoinette's decor was inspired by the art nouveau symbol, the peacock. So, the colors had a variety of blues and greens, but also accents of gold, rose, and umbra. These colors smoothly blended in with all the detailed and mostly handmade paper goods and the wedding design itself.

HIDDEN ELEMENTS THROUGHOUT

The custom two-piece dress with the rustic lace mirrors typical Jugendstil patterns of stylized flowers and other natural ornaments. The classic makeup and hairstyle get an art nouveau touch with the handmade jewelry piece and the flowers formed into a half wreath. The bridal bouquet, flower arch, and small vases were made of local flowers. The blue delphinium, which is a typical alpine flower often used in art nouveau paintings and architecture, brings the theme to a full circle. In the end, the guests were surprised by a spectacular 3-tiered wedding cake with two peacocks symbolizing the bride and groom.
