This wedding planner had 3 priorities for her own moody fall wedding
As the owner of Experiences by K, this bride had planned countless weddings for others, so designing her own dream day at Viansa Sonoma Winery was a surreal, full-circle moment. She and her husband had 3 priorities: a venue that made guests feel like they were in another country, surprise elements throughout the night, and personal touches that told their story. Captured by A Tale Ahead Photography with florals by Jacqueline Ching Design, this winery wedding featured stunning natural fall foliage and a design that played to the organic landscape while still feeling unique to the couple.
Blue + maroon: fall color palette inspo
Layered invitations in blue and white stood out against soft maroon and other fall florals.
Princess-inspired bridal style
The bride took inspiration from the idea of "bridal princess," opting for an off-the-shoulder lace-accented ballgown with a cathedral length veil.
Subtle suit customization
The groom customized his suit with their initials and wedding date under the collar of his suit jacket.
Fall-inspired bridesmaids: dark mode
The bridesmaids were also fall-inspired in organic shades of browns, greens, and burnt oranges.
Floral theme: overgrown asymmetrical
For the wedding, Experiences by K transformed the venue. She chose an "overgrown asymmetrical" floral theme by Jacqueline Ching Design with depth and texture, using greenery, vines, and branches to create an organic look.
The right music for every section
Music was layered throughout the event with a harpist for the ceremony, a first dance to "Nervous" by John Legend (the first song the groom had ever played on guitar for the bride), and a saxophonist who jammed with DJ Kev Luu late into the night.

On trend: seating wall with lamp lighting
A wallpaper seating chart featuring two elegant lamps helped guests find their seats.
Rustic charm meets elegant crystal
For the reception, the couple customized the entire interior to soften the rustic architecture. They installed sweeping ceiling drapery mixed with bistro lights and hung elegant crystal chandeliers to create a warm, intimate glow.
On trend: serpentine tables
To break the mold of a traditional layout, they utilized serpentine tables that wound through the room, creating movement and flow. Guests loved the unique shape, noting that the curves made for the best conversations. These tables were accented by tall, tree-like branch centerpieces and lush ground installations that spilled onto the floor, perfectly capturing that moody, romantic fall aesthetic.
Menus with a story
The food and drink menu told the couple's story. The signature cocktail was the first drink the bride had ever made for the groom, while their cake was baked by the bride's sister and flavored with a custom Hong Kong milk tea blend created by the groom.
Favors: hand-made chili oil
For the food-focused favors, the groom hand-made chili oil jars for every guest.
Fun extra: custom pizza boxes
The menu also featured late-night wood-fired pizzas and boba milk tea. The couple custom-branded the chili oil jars and pizza boxes with illustrations inspired by Studio Ghibli, their favorite animation studio.
Interactive guest activities
Guests were treated to a live sketch artist, a retro video guestbook, and handwritten personal notes on every place card.
Surprise DJ set by the bride
To end the night, the bride couldn't resist getting behind the DJ booth to spin a surprise set! She practiced for months leading up to the big day and kept it a secret even from her husband.
Paper lantern exit
The night ended with a magical run through a tunnel of glowing paper lanterns, a beautiful nod to the couple's Asian roots.
Advice from the planner bride
Reuse where you can! It adds sentiment and saves budget. I actually borrowed my friend's reception dress that she wore at her own wedding, and we also repurposed her self-built seating chart for our day.
