Wedding day emergency kit must haves: sweat edition
Combine wedding nerves, uncontrollable climate conditions, and some hardcore dancing–the likes of which you probably haven’t seen since prom–you’re gonna sweat. Now that we’ve put it out there, let’s talk about how to combat every bride’s arch-nemesis. From underarm sweat and chafing to gleaming foreheads, running makeup, and runaway sticky bras, we’ll cover it all so you can prep accordingly by adding these essentials to your wedding day emergency kit.
1. a hardcore travel setting spray
Yes, this one is probably a no-brainer, but we need to say it! You’d be shocked how many brides rely on their HMUAs to bring the setting spray and don’t think about all the refreshes throughout the day. True, in a perfect world, your glam squad would mist you with industrial-strength setting spray once and you’d be set for the rest of time, but between happy tears and humidity, is that really a chance you want to take? Urban Decay's All-Nighter Setting Spray formula is tried and true and they have a travel-size bottle!
2. sweatproof support
So many wedding gowns rely on sticky bras or pasties to do the work of supporting the girls, but not all sticky bras are created equal. Imagine you’re already 3 hours into your wedding day, the sun is beating down as you're waiting for your outdoor ceremony and woop, your poor bra tape or sticky bra gives up, and there go the girls. Not on our watch! Nood’s No-Show Extra Lift Adhesive Nipple Covers are sweatproof, so no matter the weather or how hard you dance, they’re not going anywhere.
3. pads
It’s always a good idea to keep these babies on hand, but especially on your wedding day. But if your dress has sleeves, you can also use pads to absorb any underarm sweat before it stains your dress. And yes, they do make under-arm-specific pads, but unless this is an issue you consistently have, we’d much rather see you invest in pads that are multi-purpose. Also, these ones from U by Kotex are extra-thin and flexible so you’ll forget they’re even there.
4. gel antiperspirant
Another way to deal with sweat is to try to stop it before it happens. Get yourself a good antiperspirant (most also double as deodorant) and make sure you try it out before the big day in case you would have any sort of adverse reaction to the formula. We found this awesome kit by Duradry that includes an antiperspirant body wash and deodorant along with a travel-size gel antiperspirant that will fit right in your clutch. Use the antiperspirant anywhere you usually sweat–underarms, inner thighs, forehead, etc.
5. dance tights
There’s a reason dancers wear tights. They reduce friction and also help wick sweat and keep the body feeling cool and dry. Think of your wedding day as an extreme sport and dress for the occasion. Suit up in some dance tights. These ones come in a variety of different skin tones and are convertible in case you don’t want them covering your feet.
