What is a wedding DJ responsible for?
It really depends on your agreement with the specific DJ and what you have coordinated with your planner. The DJ is central to everything. Sometimes we’re hired just as talent, not for the whole production, so it all comes down to the music. And even though each vbmusic DJ has their own style and experience, we work as a team under a shared vision, so there’s a standard for what needs to be delivered. Behind every wedding, there’s always a producer from our crew who, together with the DJs, shapes the musical vibe we’re going for. We curate and produce the full concept for music, lighting, stage, and FX for our clients. This ensures a cohesive flow between all of the elements and creates a truly immersive experience for you and your guests.
Music is so subjective. How do you match each client to the right DJ for them?
There are endless DJ options for every taste and kind of event. We think it’s important to find a DJ whose vibe matches what you want—there’s something for everyone, but not everyone will deliver what you’re after. Check the experience of whoever you hire—production work (especially for weddings) is delicate and needs something specialized. And finally, don’t just go for what’s flashy or obvious; there are details in every brand’s proposal that people overlook, but they matter.
You guys are a team, right? What are your DJs like?
Not just anyone can be a DJ here. It’s a tight, curated, in-house team, trained for years in the vbmusic concept. The “wtf djs”, as we call them, have been with us a long time, and after tons of events, they get what we do, how we do it, and know the secret sauce. Sometimes we open the door to new talent, but at least for weddings, there’s always a “wtf dj” and a vbmusic producer creating in sync with our clients and our brand.
So many couples are having destination weddings these days, and it can be hard to know where to find vendors. Couples are torn between hiring local vendors that they don’t know or finding good vendors that do destination weddings. We know you’re based in the US and in Mexico. Does your team travel?
Yes! Over the last four years, we’ve gotten to travel a lot outside the country. Mexico is a big destination for weddings, and thanks to guests from all over the world, we’ve been hired and flown out to their countries—it’s been wild. Local vendors are always surprised by what we do. Other times, Mexican clients want to have their wedding abroad, but know they just won’t find the kind of party they want with local DJs. The wedding DJ scene in Mexico just doesn’t exist in the same way anywhere else.
