This Avatar-Inspired Wedding Puts The Focus On Nature And Sustainability

Deciding to pull inspiration for your wedding can be a risky endeavor, but if it's done right, it can be a pretty cool experience for you and your guests. This team designed an entire inspiration shoot around the blockbuster hit, Avatar. Before you freak out, no, there's no blue body paint! Instead, there are just subtle nods to the movie's theme of respecting and celebrating nature. They kept the decor very minimal and let the true beauty of the location shine. They also incorporated sustainable practices throughout the event and opted to plant trees in their guests' names in lieu of favors.

The Traveling Tee wanted to show that a theme wedding can be elegant and sustainable. These natural florals by American Stems are so organic, they look like they grew that way! INSPIRED BY THE ISLAND SPIRIT

The Avatar film showcases the beauty and respect we must have for nature and each other. Sustainability and equality are the main themes of this special styled shoot encompassing the best wedding vendors in the Massachusetts area. The model couple are newlyweds who met in Hawaii. The groom, Ali'i, is from the islands. He locked eyes with his future bride, Erin, at an art show and both felt the magnetic energy. They both love nature and the island spirit which paralleled into their styled shoot characters of Jake Sully and Neytiri.

FINDING THE BEAUTY IN THE SPACE

Erin's hair included tight braids and feathers, and Ali'i's hair mirrored hers with one tight braid down the sides of his updo. From the driftwood and ferns on the cream tablescape to the floral tree, nature's beauty using trees and plants was the main focal point, just like the Tree of Souls is in the film. This gives future couples some inspiration on how to find the beauty in the wedding venue space without adding too much decor.

KEEPING IT SIMPLE AND SUSTAINABLE

The wedding cake design was a simple white buttercream with a succulent on the top. The saying, "I see you" is used in the film as a way to say, "I love you" and, "I respect you," which I wanted to incorporate by adding those powerful words to the outside of the cake. They were written into the buttercream as a reminder to the couple as they cut the cake to always love and respect one another. Once cut, the simple white cake revealed a vibrant blue cake made with butterfly pea powder to bring the blue Navi'i people from the film into the shoot. Going with the theme of sustainability, each guest had a tree planted in their name as a wedding favor. For couples that love the film and love nature, this wedding theme is perfect for them.
