the vibe: tropical paradise
With the help of Callista & Company, Lily and Jay approached wedding planning with an amazing sense of creativity and placed great value on their guests' experience. Colorful floral design from Britlyn Simone complemented birds of paradise prints on custom bars and backdrops on the wedding day. They were anxiously awaiting the arrival of Hurricane Hilary all weekend with several rain backup plans in place, and with some incredible luck, the first raindrop fell minutes after Lily and Jay (and all of their guests) made it inside for their personalized Tiger’s Tiki Bar after-party experience at Rancho Valencia Resort.
getting ready
In matching tropical robes, Lily lounged with her ladies as they got ready for the big day. After everyone had their hair and makeup done, her Maid of Honor helped her into her gown.
the fashion
For the tropical-inspired affair, Lily wore a sexy yet elegant lace mermaid gown by Ines Di Santo. She paired the look with her own take on a "glass slipper," crystal-studded pumps from Christian Louboutin. Her bridesmaids were also radiant in matching emerald green dresses with a subtle floral print. Jay and his groomsmen wowed everyone when they arrived in chic navy and black tuxedos. Even the guests brought their A-game when it came to the fashion!
the escort wall
In a subtle nod to the architecture of the ranch, the escort wall featured ceramic tiles with a deep navy blue glaze etched with the guests' names and table assignments. They also used these same tiles as signage throughout the wedding design.
the favors
Guests enjoyed a Welcome Party poolside at the Hacienda at Rancho Valencia with a live band, tacos, and a tequila engraving station where custom engraved bottles were distributed to guests as favors.
the drinks
In addition to wine, beer, and mixed drinks, the couple each chose a signature cocktail for the big day: a spiked strawberry basil lemonade for Lily and a spicy serrano margarita for Jay. The reception also featured a dramatic eight-level champagne tower garnished with fresh flowers.
the cake
We had to save the best part for last...just look at this masterpiece by Hey There Cupcake! We're seeing a unique shift in cakes as of late, with couples opting for a sleek, modern silhouette for the cake and dramatic sugar (or in this case, wafer paper) flowers in a matching shade, making it all about the texture and design.
