the vision: southern charm

With sweet family ties to the charming barrier islands, tying the knot on the Outer Banks made perfect sense for Emily and Eric. With Roanoke Festival Park, a stunning outdoor venue, and the vast ocean as their backdrop, it was easy for this couple to plan a picture-perfect day that you’ll definitely want to save for your vision board. With pops of colorful florals by Flower Girls OBX framing the ceremony space, guests were awestruck at how the bride and groom (with help from Coastyle) managed to take a seemingly bare canvas and bring their unique style to life. Beautiful handwritten vows made for a sweet and emotional display as the couple said ‘I do’ in front of their closest friends and family. The day continued with a lively cocktail hour where guests came together to converse and display their vibrant attire. As the evening continued, guests were ushered into the one-of-a-kind reception space where the couple’s vision truly came to life. Touching speeches followed by an unforgettable dancefloor made for a wedding that guests will be raving about for years to come.

the destination: the outer banks

The Outer Banks has always been a special place to me and my family. Anyone who’s had the privilege of visiting the quaint beach towns knows that there’s a special magic to the place. My parents actually met on the Outer Banks in the 80s, and Eric’s family has a home in Nags Head. When Eric and I started planning our wedding, we couldn’t shake the idea of tying the knot on the beach. All of the details came together beautifully as we realized that both of our families share similar memories of the Outer Banks. It was just a no-brainer for us to get married at the beach.

Playing into the natural seaside palette, Eric and his men wore sand-colored suits and relaxed white button-down shirts. Emily looked absolutely radiant in an off-the-shoulder mermaid gown with a ruched bodice. The bridal party wore mix-and-match summery shades of pink and blue.

DIY

diy wedding table numbers

Sometimes when you have a really specific vision, doing it yourself is the best route to take. I couldn’t find the exact style of table numbers we wanted, so I decided to take matters into my own hands (literally!). I found a website where I was able to design my own wrapping paper, and used that to craft our table numbers. We really wanted the Mediterranean tile look, and they turned out beautifully. Something we loved about this DIY is that we can use the wrapping paper for our future anniversary presents - so special!

Both Eric and I are lucky enough to have received family heirlooms to use as our wedding bands. Eric's gold band is the first wedding band his dad ever had. For my wedding band, I worked with a jeweler to custom-design a ring using Eric’s grandmother’s first wedding set. She gifted this to Eric with the intention of him passing it along to his future wife, and the sapphires within it are his birthstone. Knowing that our wedding bands have this extra sentiment behind them is just so touching.

words of wisdom from a happy bride

This is for my brides: if you’re going back and forth on hair and makeup, know that it’s okay to love your trial and still want to switch it up the day of! The week of my wedding, I was still struggling to pinpoint what I wanted, and ultimately went with a classier version of my day-to-day vibe. My hair and makeup artists took no offense at me wanting to do something completely different than what we did at my trial. It’s way more common than you think! I ended up feeling like the most beautiful version of my natural self, which is exactly what I wanted. Also, grooms, don’t be afraid to do a little glam yourself! Eric had such a fun time being pampered in the other room, getting his facial hair trimmed up so that he could also feel like his best self! It's such a fun way to start the day and the rest of your lives together.
