new york couples portrait session ideas

We had very different childhoods. As a result, we think very differently about things. Muhan grew up in Beijing, China, and came to the US to study in college. She was an only child who was raised by her mom, a single mother who balanced raising Muhan with her career as an entrepreneur. I grew up in upstate New York with my younger sister and my parents, who are both doctors. Muhan is open to everything and adventurous, and I am generally more reserved, but she brings me out of my shell, helps me try new things, and helps me keep my cynical/curmudgeonly tendencies in check. Muhan says that I make her feel safe and grounded and that it means a lot, given that she grew up in a turbulent household.

The best part about a rehearsal dinner is the smaller guest list. This opens you up to all sorts of intimate dining opportunities and experiences. This couple treated all of their guests to the most delicious homemade pasta!

the vision: lavender fields and gastronomy

The color palette was lavender and deep purple, chosen in honor of Muhan’s mom. She was the only member of Muhan’s family to fly all the way from Beijing, China, for the wedding, and she raised Muhan as a single mother, so her presence was very important.

Apricity Event Co took that inspo and ran with it. For the outdoor ceremony, they kept decor simple, with the focus on lavender-hued arrangements by Ephemera for the aisle and a mostly white floral arch. We especially love their choice of chairs; the scrolled Deco-inspired design is such a vibe. The whimsical wildflower-inspired arrangements flowed over into the reception, where the food also doubled as decor.

Muhan had two distinct wedding looks, and each one was its own moment. For the ceremony, she wore an elegant A-line tulle gown by Sept that she paired with voluminous off-the-shoulder sleeves and a trailing lace-trimmed veil. Then, for the reception, she changed into a chic mini dress by Danielle Frankel and a matching chiffon scarf. Peter looked equally dapper in a timeless black tuxedo.

abstract wedding cake ideas

In keeping with the theme of gastronomy, the couple opted for an artfully abstract wedding cake. Swirls of buttercream, sliced granadilla, and fresh flowers created a sculptural centerpiece for the evening.
