meant to be
A mutual friend spent the better part of a year trying to set Lauryn and Mike up. Both adamantly insisted they wouldn’t be a good match, refusing every opportunity for an introduction. But in September 2021, fate had other plans. They unexpectedly found themselves aboard a mutual friend’s boat en route to a football game. Determined to prove everyone wrong, Lauryn leaned into the situation—what followed, in her own words, was “an embarrassing amount of flirting.” Mike was caught off guard, but by the end of the day, they were completely wrapped up in each other. “It only took one date for us to begrudgingly admit that our friend did, in fact, know us better than we knew ourselves,” Lauryn recalled. “We were falling in love, and there was no denying it.” Mike proposed during a family vacation in the Bahamas. On the first night of the trip, he and Lauryn headed to the rooftop deck of their house to watch the sunset. It was the perfect moment—peaceful, beautiful, and set against a breathtaking view.
the vision: palm beach meets anthro
Just twenty days before their wedding, Lauryn and Mike were forced to rethink key elements of their celebration due to Hurricane Helene. Lauryn’s dream venue, Carlouel Beach & Yacht Club, suffered severe storm damage and could no longer host their original event—a heartbreaking twist, especially since she had booked the venue on the very day they got engaged. In a stroke of luck, Carlouel Beach & Yacht Club was able to accommodate their rehearsal outdoors. Seizing the moment, Lauryn and Mike planned a surprise ceremony for their closest family and friends. That evening, what was meant to be a simple rehearsal transformed into an intimate, unexpected wedding at the place that meant so much to them.
The following day, they hosted a larger celebration at the Pelican Club, with the MMD Events team seamlessly reworking every detail. “Unlike most brides, I already had a very detailed vision for my wedding,” Lauryn admitted. She worried her carefully curated aesthetic wouldn’t translate at the new venue. But thanks to her exceptional wedding planner and team, she said, “They gave me the wedding day of my dreams.” Described by the bride as “Palm Beach meets Anthropologie,” the wedding was a stunning display of color, texture, and extravagance. Vibrant orchids adorned everything from the floral arrangements by Bloom Shakalaka to the cake, while patterned linens, fresh peaches, and delicate ocean bird motifs added thoughtful touches. The weekend was twice as meaningful—two celebrations, twice the love, and a wedding story that was nothing short of unforgettable.
the invitations
Die-cut stationery in playful silhouettes is having a moment. It's a great way to modernize a classic wedding aesthetic like this one. We also love that Dizzy Daisy Designs managed to pull in all of the colors from the palette into one beautifully cohesive suite.
getting ready
With her besties by her side, Lauryn lounged in linen PJs as she got her glam on for the big day. Meanwhile, Mike was all smiles as he put the finishing touches on his look.
the fashion
For the tropical affair, Lauryn selected an elegant halter gown by Pronovias with a dramatic low back. She paired the look with lace-up white satin sandals by Loeffler Randall. Her side of the bridal party sported the chic pastel color palette in a variety of silhouettes, including one in a pink linen suit. Mike and his men all donned timeless black tuxedos with black bow ties for the occasion.
trend alert: custom dance floors
OMG, remember when there was one dance floor rental option, and it was sticky brown wood squares? It may have taken years, but the wedding gods have heard our prayers, and custom dance floors are officially a thing! As this trend is starting to take hold, we're really seeing the creativity of the planners and couples unfold with unique colors, custom monograms, and motifs, like this one.
the cake
How gorgeous is this four-tiered wedding cake, with its waterfall of fresh orchids? And you'll never guess that this masterpiece actually came from a grocery store bakery, Publix to be exact! First, Publix cakes are the best (iykyk). But we're mentioning this specifically because this wedding is the perfect example of how to allocate your budget. Splurge on the things that matter the most to you (flowers and decor in this instance) and save where you can. This cake is simple, delicious, affordable, and still absolutely beautiful.
