Chicago planetarium wedding in a fitting sky blue color palette
Max & Mackenzie, both originally from the Chicago area, were living in Dallas when they matched on Hinge on Valentine’s Day 2021. Their first date at Mi Cocina took place during a Texas ice storm, with Max driving 15 miles on icy roads to meet Mackenzie, a gesture that quickly turned into “love at first sight.” By the end of that week, they had already shared four dates, setting the foundation for a love that would lead them back to Chicago, where Max proposed. When it came time to plan their wedding, they chose May 4th at Adler Planetarium, a nod to Max’s love of Star Wars and Mackenzie’s admiration for the sweeping Chicago skyline. Captured by Nicodem Creative and planned with the help of Elegante Weddings and Events, this gorgeous planetarium wedding was a must-see event outfitted in the ever-appropriate palette of sky blue!

Epic bow details
For her gown, Mackenzie worked with Allison Webb at Mira Couture, who designed a chic silhouette with a bold bow detail, “a little party in the back," that perfectly captured her playful yet sophisticated style.
Gothic-style cathedral ceremony
Their ceremony took place at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago’s Streeterville neighborhood, a gothic-style church known for its soaring architecture and intricate wood details, creating a dramatic and memorable entrance.
Featured venue: Adler Planetarium
Guests were then welcomed to the Adler Planetarium, an all-glass, modern space on the shores of Lake Michigan, where city views provided a stunning backdrop.
Romantic garden-inspired florals
The reception design embraced a timeless garden romance with layered white blooms, peonies, roses, ranunculus, and phalaenopsis orchids from Yanni Design Studio, set against soft blue linens and airy candlelight. The palette allowed the florals to shine while seamlessly complementing the architecture and skyline just beyond the angled glass ceiling.
On trend: blue and white chinoiserie
To make the celebration even more meaningful, Mackenzie spent months collecting blue and white chinoiserie vases for the floral arrangements, a detail that not only elevated the design but also ensured the couple could carry a piece of their wedding day into their home and life together for years to come.
Fun, custom details
Max and Mackenzie infused the evening with thoughtful, personal touches that reflected their personalities. Signature cocktails included “The Min,” a spicy jalapeño margarita for her, and “The Max,” an elderflower old-fashioned with bourbon, St. Germain, bitters, and a lemon twist for him.
