Rainy Savannah Wedding With A ’20s Twist

Wedding couple kisses under umbrella on muddy road

Some cities just look better in the rain, and Savannah is definitely one of them. So, when Sasha and Brett saw the clouds rolling in on their April wedding it didn't bother them a bit, in fact, it ended up being one of the special things that they remember most about their wedding day. No matter what the weather app says, rain is always a possibility, so it is important to be prepared (even if your wedding day will take place mostly indoors). It's a good idea to have umbrellas for everyone in your bridal party, and you'll want them to be cute (like these clear vinyl ones) in case they end up making their way into your photos. Your wedding planner may already have your rain plan outlined, but it never hurts to ask so you can all be on the same page.

The rain really adds to these sweet photos by Precious Moments Photography. Denece Connington designed beautiful arrangements that only added to the deco theme and pulled in elements from the bride's gown like feathers. The Elliot House and The Mercer House provided the perfect balance of indoor and outdoor spaces for this 1920s inspired wedding. ALWAYS THE STYLIST...FINALLY THE BRIDE!

Sasha and Brett Melhouse held their destination wedding on April 24, 2021, in Savannah, Georgia. Sasha is a bridal gown consultant for Couture By Tess Bridal in Cookeville, Tennessee. She spends her days assisting other brides in finding that perfect dress to suit them, so it’s no wonder that Sasha’s own wedding gown fit her personality and silhouette to a tee. Her love of vintage style and historical references led her to choose a 1920s-inspired Liretta By Pollardi Group label purchased from her workplace. This dress is a form-fitting, slightly vintage-styled gown with a sea of carefully placed pearls, cascading lace details throughout, ostrich feathers along the bottom of the skirt, and accented with a cape. “I loved its 1920s vibes and how it still looked modern at the same time,” said Sasha.

INSIDE JOKES

One of Sasha’s favorite moments from the day was an inside joke between her and her husband, Brett. She had the phrase, “I wouldn’t want you to think I wasn’t happy,” embroidered on a tie. “It's a joke we say to each other at the most inappropriate of times. We will be having a very serious conversation and one of us will say, ‘I wouldn't want you to think I wasn't happy.’ It is always said with an emotionless, neutral tone and face. No matter what, it breaks the tension and brings laughter to us both. When Brett was presented with the tie by my bridesmaid on our wedding day, a moment later I received a text that only read, ‘Of course, you did.’ I knew he was laughing as hard as I was,” explained Sasha.

LET IT RAIN

It was a beautiful, albeit rainy day. The couple, who originally met at a previous job and bonded over a mutual hobby, actually enjoyed their rainy wedding day. “We both feel like the umbrellas and the rain made the day even more beautiful and exciting,” said Sasha. Brett and Sasha ended up having a destination wedding at a property that Sasha's mother has access to. After some contemplation, the couple decided it was a wonderful space for their special day. With their closest friends and family in attendance, Brett and Sasha had a beautiful union on this misty, spring day in art deco style that all present will not soon forget.
