A vintage woodsy wedding in Massachusetts inspired by a rare flower
Claire and Caleb met as interns on the 20th floor of Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia on the first day of their cardiology rotation. The setting was a small, closet-sized workroom with no windows - hardly the ideal place for a first impression! Just a few years later, for their wedding at Wright-Locke Farm in Winchester, Massachusetts, they drew inspiration from the ghost pipe flower and it's sentimental meaning of nurturing. A pale white forest flower, the ghost pipe cannot photosynthesize like other plants and instead relies on nutrients from the network of mushrooms and plants beneath the forest floor. This idea of symbiosis and roots inspired the couple’s wedding vision: to be surrounded by those who have supported and nurtured their relationship. Planned with the help of One28 Events and photographed by Nicole Chan Photo & Video, this woodsy wedding told a wonderful botanical story blending bright and earthy tones with whimsical touches.
Invitation theme: fungi and flora
Save-the-dates and invitations featured fungi, flora, and pearlescent ghost pipes painted with natural inks that the couple had made themselves from toad skin lichen.
A hedgehog and a dog came to a wedding...
The couple's dog and hedgehog - yes, hedgehog! - made a guest appearance while Claire was getting ready. We love that their unique pet was able to be a part of their big day!
Groom's style: velvet bowtie
Caleb looked dapper in a custom blue suit and oxblood velvet bowtie with golden leaf accents.
Bridal style: floral-trimmed veil
For the ceremony, Claire wore a timeless Mikado gown with a floral-trimmed veil, while her bridesmaids dressed in a variety of autumn-inspired shades of velvet.
Ceremony program: vintage botanical
The wedding program was designed like a vintage botanical book.
Window box welcome sign
As they approached the ceremony space, guests were created with a window box welcome sign with a variety of wildflowers courtesy of Forevermark Flowers.
Unique venue: a barn built in 1827
The couple was married in the old barn on the Wright-Locke Farm property, built in 1827, beneath the glow of yellow paper lanterns.
