Modern & Artsy Cabo Wedding: The Cape Hotel Inspiration

Bride and groom walk hand in hand happy wedding day

When you think beach wedding, your first thought is probably boho (that toes in the sand, fringe, linen pants kind of vibe), but that doesn't have to be the case. With cement block accent walls and sleek architectural details, this rooftop wedding in Cabo is a perfect example of how to make your beach wedding modern and artsy. It really all comes down to the venue and styling. The Cape Hotel is a fun stylish venue with a minimalist design. The couple played off that vibe and went with simple, classic ensembles that complemented the space beautifully.  For colors, they kept it clean using mostly neutrals and greenery with just a pop of pink here and there.

Because of the versatility of the venue and location, there is so much variety in these photos by Photo by Julieta and Allan Carrazco Photography. Some are full-on beachy and some are more urban and edgy, which makes for a great combo! Arete Florals brought color and life into this fun minimalist space with these gorgeous floral arrangements. Bliss Events played a critical role in helping this couple plan their destination wedding and manage everything that COVID-19 threw at them during the process. You can see all the images in the full gallery. Read on to hear more from the bride, Kelly, about how she and her new husband pulled off this stunning destination wedding.

SETTING THE MOOD

I’ve always envisioned an outdoor, candlelit dinner and reception and have generally gravitated toward more modern designs and darker tones–which is partly why I fell in love with The Cape Hotel as our venue. Playing off The Cape's moody romantic atmosphere was definitely part of my inspiration, but I also wanted to incorporate some fun colorful elements because–it’s Mexico! Given how opposite those two themes are though, my Pinterest board was all over the place with inspiration ideas. I’m more of a big picture person and knew the general “vibe” we wanted but didn’t quite know how to create it, especially when it came down to selecting the right table settings, flowers, signage, and all of the little details that tie everything together (while remaining within our budget). Bliss somehow took my crazy Pinterest board and managed to create a lot of amazing and realistic options (with visuals) to choose from for each part of the event. Specifically, the mock-ups for the table settings were super helpful and I’m grateful they were able to interpret my scattered inspiration pictures into a beautiful and cohesive décor theme that perfectly bridged a little pop of color with a modern, moody vibe.

GOING WITH THE FLOW

In hindsight, any issues we considered to be problems during the initial 7-month planning process were nothing compared to what we went through when Covid hit. We were a month out from our wedding but had to postpone from April 24, 2020, to November 20, 2020. With so many unknowns, it was (is) a stressful time in general, let alone trying to plan a wedding during it. That said, I cannot even imagine how much more challenging it would have been without Bonnie and the Bliss Events team. Having an open line of communication with their team helped us navigate the process immensely and seamlessly. They were always on top of it, addressing every question and understanding our concerns–and were many. They worked closely with The Cape and our vendors to ensure that we felt comfortable hosting some of our closest friends and family in Cabo during such an uncertain time. We feel so lucky that it actually happened and are so thankful we didn’t compromise on the location or our vision for the event. I loved working with Bliss because they were extremely competent throughout the whole process, and no request or problem was ever met with a negative reaction, just helpful solutions!

THE HIGHLIGHTS

Exchanging our vows was one of the most memorable moments because that’s when it truly all started to feel real! The ceremony set up was stunning and the way the light hit at that time in the afternoon made it feel even more magical. I loved everything about the reception as well–especially the music. With 2020 being the year that it was, it was one of the only times (maybe the only) you could enjoy live music and dancing. Seeing our guests enjoy themselves felt so rewarding and made the night that much more special. Also, cutting the cake with my grandparents’ original wedding topper was so special and something I’ll never forget!
